Picture
On a Thursday afternoon the vet came to my house to administer the final shot to my beloved Chalo-dog companion of 13 years.  Friends had gathered and he was resting quietly in my arms when the plunger went in.

Two friends said they saw his soul going back up to the mountains.

Another friend said it was like a deep green energy surrounded him and present in the room.

I saw his soul leaving as white bubble-like lights.

The whole house was filled with a brilliant white-gold light for hours after he left his doggie body.

For months afterwards I felt like Chalo was pushing me to paint a picture of him.  Finally I did.  The right side of the picture represents his soul body descending into a Blue Heeler dog body.  The blue behind his neck is the return to the mountains.  The light bubbles are his soul going back.  The mountains are his home.  The eyes are his eyes – the intensity with which he expressed love and devotion so selflessly for so many years.

On the day the picture completed, I experienced an incredible calm and acceptance that his physical body is no longer in the house.

The picture hangs on a wall in the living room.  I talk to him regularly, thank him for the years together, tell him I miss his physical presence.  Tell him the house is so clean now and how I sometimes find his dog hairs still.   Thank him for being around – in the new form.
